VISIT KAFA » HOW TO GET HERE
The Kafa region is located 460 kilometers southwest of Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. Bonga town is the capital of Kafa Zone and the largest town in the Biosphere Reserve. Begin your visit to Kafa by traveling to Bonga on an all-weather road from Jimma. Jimma, 118 kilometers from Bonga, has an airport and good road networks connecting it to Addis Ababa. A variety of options exist for traveling from there to the Biosphere Reserve.
Getting to Bonga will make the journey a fascinating part of your experience because it is off the beaten path. Keep in mind that delays in transportation are possible during the rainy season as runways and roads can flood. Ethiopia runs on a more relaxed schedule than is common in some countries but this ensures that you will slow down and get a chance to see what Ethiopia and Kafa have to offer.
As with any destination, it is possible to arrange the trip on your own as you go along, or ahead of time with a tour office in your home country, Addis Ababa, or in the Biosphere Reserve.
